The main intention of Clavimusic Piano Studio is to provide friendly, supportive, and motivating environment that challenges and excites all students. Learning how to play a musical instrument is a long and involved process, sometimes testing the student's patience and requiring discipline and perseverance. According to studies it takes about 10 000 hours to master a complex skill such as playing a musical instrument, playing chess or figure skating.

The following "rules" have been put together with the intention to be in the best interests of the student, parents and the teacher.

The first lesson is offered for free, so that student, parents and teacher may establish a good working relationship, set some goals and get a taste of the adventures ahead.

After the initial trial lesson, all parties make a commitment to work together for at least one academic year. The piano and music lessons' calendar follows approximately the public school calendar.

Regular attendance is very important for a steady and noticeable progress. That is why absences will be excused only in case of illness and school events conflicts. Occasional family vacation outside of the regular school breaks could be considered for a make up at a mutually agreeable time.

24 hour notice is required
for individual lesson cancellation or rescheduling. If there is insufficient notice time or the reason for the absence is of a frivolous nature, the fee for that lesson will be forfeited.

Lessons missed due to the teacher's
absence will be rescheduled or refunded.

Payment is due in advance
on the first lesson of each month. The amount paid is based on the projected number of lessons for that month.

The fee is based exclusively on the length of the lesson, regardless of the age or level of student. Thus a
30 minute private lesson is $25, a 60 minute lesson is $50. Rates are set in accordance with the BCRMTA North Shore branch guidelines.

Lesson length varies depending on many factors. Beginners usually start with half an hour lessons and progress to longer lessons as the needs change.

Practice and play. The importance of regular practice can not be overemphasized. Imagine a baby learning how to walk and being let out of the pen only once a week. Or young child learning how to read and having access to books only once a week. Yes, there will be progress, but it will be painfully slow. Back to music. The best motivation is the feeling of competency and success. The more regular the practice-playing sessions, the faster the progress and the sense of fulfillment will be.

Establishing good practice habits is an essential part of our program. Parents are expected to support and encourage regular and free from distractions practice time 4-5 days a week between lessons. Keep in mind that practicing 2.5 hours once a week doesn't equal 5 sessions 30 minutes each taken on different days of the week.

Listening to different types of music is strongly encouraged as it is extremely beneficial for the development of the musicianship.

Parents and students
are always welcomed to contact the studio if any questions or concerns arise.
